Predators sneak peek

Recently premiered at SXSW (which we swear we will go to next year, maybe) I bring to you 2 minutes of Nimrod Antal’s Predators (produced by Robert Rodriguez). This looks pretty bad ass and much better than the AvP flicks (although I do enjoy the second on a pure b-movie level).

Anyway enjoy:

Why would you remake the Wizard of Oz (again)? Seriously?

March 11, 2010 Film News, Musings 1 Comment

At this point, Dorothy's been used more than a monthly Metrocard.

I’ve never been as entranced by The Wizard of Oz as most people, but I would be a moron to not consider it an untouchable classic. Untouchable. Chalk another one up to Hollywood’s lack of innovative (or even original, for that matter) ideas that they are going to dance on the grave of another film by remake it.

Warner Bros. – only kept relevant this decade thanks to Harry Potter and Batman films wants to pimp out two of these films, the first being a kid-friendly seat filler and the second would be a sequel to The Wizard of Oz, about Dorothy’s granddaughter. The only interesting news on the latter is that it is coming from the writer of A History of Violence, a movie I absolutely love.

I know there have been several remakes of the film already, with me liking The Wiz for no reason bearing merit but come on. We all know this will be hyped and over-hyped again and again, until brainless parents (who don’t remember rolling a fat joint and playing  Dark Side of the Moon alongside the original) drag their kids to this and therefore eliminate any chance of them having any appreciation for a masterpiece. I can’t honestly say I have a HUGE problem with remaking a film, but in regards to certain movies, why the hell would you do it? Besides money, and the fact that Hollywood is run by pussies, I mean. The Shawshank Redemption, Chinatown, Roshamon, E.T. - and dare I say it – Gone with the Wind and Casablanca are a few examples of films that just should not be fucked with. But just expect that someday, someone just might.

I’m annoyed. Time for breakfast.

Fright Night Remake Has A Director?

Vampirism and Puberty go hand in hand.

The L.A. Times is reporting that Craig Gillespie will likely sit behind the camera and direct the remake of Fright Night. If you’re not too familiar with Gillespie, he’s the same director who made the films Mr. Woodcock and Lars and the Real Girl. Both are horrific films, so it makes sense that he’d make an official horror film now.

Now I’m just wondering if whoever plays “Evil” Ed Thompson will also get into gay pornography after refusing to be in the sequel.

Blood Bond aka Michael Biehn Brings it Back

The good fellows over at Twitch Films (probably one of our favorite film sites on the interwebs) just posted the sales reel for an up coming movie called Blood Bond. And it is all sorts of win. We have Phoenix Chou, Simon Yam and Michael Biehn roughing it up and fighting 80s kungfu style. That is a 80s action movie nerd’s wet dream. Well maybe not but I must say this movie looks awesome. I love Simon Yam and Michael Biehn and the soundtrack is totally metal. The nonsensical plot aside (really who watches these for an enlightening experience anyway) I can’t wait to see this. Synopsis and trailer after the break: … Continue Reading

Percy Jackson is Peter Parker?

March 4, 2010 Film News, Films No Comments

Could this be the new Webhead? Only time will tell...

The ‘news’ is about a month old right now, but Logan Lerman (Double L to the ladies) is either in talks, on a list of a thousand other young guys or has the role. So this is the usual non-news that floods the internet. The difference is that I’m funny and I can’t help but wonder who will be in the new Spider-Man franchise.

Logan does say he’d love to play the role of Spidey, that any actor would love to play the character and it would be beneficial to anyone’s career. Just tell that to Nicholas Hammond, my friend.

If it is true, Marc Webb finally has the most important piece of the puzzle. But with Percy Jackson not delivering in the box office early last month, do you see Logan Lerman as a marketable name? Well, his slate should be clear due to no Percy Jackson sequels on the way.

And remember this: Tobey Maguire was known as that kid from Pleasantville and The Cider House Rules.

Personally, I’ll always know him as that creepy hitchhiker with the thinning hair from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

One, Two, Freddy’s Premiering a Poster For You

March 4, 2010 Film News, Films No Comments

Warner Brothers premiered the new poster for the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street.

I like Freddy in it but the girl is looking a bit too photoshopped for my taste. New posters tend to do that too much nowadays.

The trailer didn’t do much to get me interested. But I’m still seeing it the first day because 1) I’m a horror hound and 2) I have faith in Jackie Earl Haley.

New Shadow Movie From Fox, Will Lose Tons of Money

March 3, 2010 Film News, Films No Comments

The Shadow: Who cares now?

Um, did I miss something? Don’t get me wrong. I love the original pulp stories of The Shadow created by Walter B. Gibson. Have you ever listened to the radio dramas performed by Orson Welles? Seek them out and you’ll have a fantastic time.

But the 1994 film still left a bad taste in my mouth. And I’m a huge Alec Baldwin fan, but that was the era of nostalgia for the 1930′s/1940′s that saw an insane resurgence that came from films like Dick Tracy, A League of Their Own and The Rocketeer. But for every one of those, we had a Shadow or a Phantom film. Slam Evil my ass!

But I guess I don’t know what’s hip with the kiddies in this day and age because Latino Review is reporting that Fox is on board and putting the cash forward for a new film based on the titular hero. Sam Raimi had been pegged a bit ago to direct a new Shadow film with Sony, but Fox got the rights and Raimi is still in the producing chair.

David Slade is set to direct after Twilight 3D (I remember it like it was yesterday when he was doing films like Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night, two films I enjoy quite a lot).

Right now, Alec Baldwin is hoping to play the character again. Or maybe the new version’s father.
