I understand what you are going through. I recently had to read the book The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. It was horrible. While the book should be noted for its great themes and concepts, it also extremely slow moving, thus massive boredom set in. In order to get through this, I decided that I would read and after words reflect on my reading and try to link it somehow to today or just go beyond the themes of the book and analyze it in terms of overall, what the book says about human nature. Thankfully, I got through it.

An addendum, not that it needed one:

I do realize that I just, probably, wasted some time I could have spent reading. I realize this, but I thought writing about my issue might help me see it in another light. So far, I was wrong. Off to read... I guess. Haha

[...] Dreadnought gets some love from Paper Space Ships – “…readers get to learn more about this alternate America, complete with an independent Texas that serves as a weapons dealer to both sides, the goings-on out west and the far reach of the sap drug since the first novel. The meat of the story however, is Mercy’s train ride west, full of shoot-outs, showdowns and a collection of people who can’t get along all headed in the same direction.” [...]

Shaka,
After reading this, there are so many things I want to say. I can't seem to get my thoughts into a coherent order--at least one coherent enough to make sense. I am glad you got the sense to get yourself started on what you truly want to do. II am also glad that your are still...well...young enough. It sounds stupid of me to say so, as I am only (almost) four years older than you, but I am glad you got yourself on a path before you turned 30 (I don't know what it is that bothers me about this age)--which is SO not happening for me. School is all well and good, but it's just a means to an end. I think that, in reading what you had to say about the way you feel and the way you are working, is just the sort of inspiration I need. I don't know how much of this made sense, but there it is. I am happy for you, my friend. You may not meet your deadline, but you are working on it! Maybe when I grow up one day, I can do it just like you!

Hey, redhead! I promise I will write one as soon as we finish reading it. Others have warned me about Rand's other works, and I haven't really had any interest otherwise. Anthem seems like quite a worthy read, and I was sort of worried it'd be...I don't know...blah. It's just a standard 102 Lit course, and this is our novel section for the class. I am sure a lot of people will hate it, too. Not many people in my class have enjoyed anything we have read. I've enjoyed, well, most of it! ;)

You'll have to do a post on Anthem, becuase I want to know what you think of it! It was one of the last Rand books I read, but because it's just plain not as obnoxious as her others, it's a great starting point for Rand virgins. Is it just a typical literature class, or some kind of specialized English class? I'm sure some people in the class will really just hate Anthem.

As I mentioned, I just can't take time for it this year. Last year I had a great time doing, and in 2007 I did too. 2008 was blah, and I wound up quitting. Yes, I am a quitter! ;P Good luck, though! It is a thrill, to be sure.

I am about to have to buy a new copy of this book, because I have read it so many times and forced so many other people to read it(and subsequently buy their own copies) that it is becoming incredibly tattered. Nice review, by the way.
