No. Also Shaq? You don't have The Glow.

Hello there space cowboys. Indeed it is another Tuesday. Our Top 7 NES lists were so popular that we decided to take it back to some other systems. This weeks list is for the Super Nintendo. Now back in the day you were one of two camps Sega or Nintendo. I fell into the Sega category and never actually owned a Super Nintendo. However one of my best friends Peter did (and still does most likely) and we spent many hours playing in his living room. Years later (and thanks to a hacked Dreamcast…shh….) I managed to get a hold of every Super Nintendo game ever released. Here are my favorites.

7. Zombies Ate My Neighbors, LucasArts. 1993.

This game must have been responsible for a ton of broken pads.

One of the most frustratingly hard game Peter and I used to play, but it didn’t stop us from continuing to try to escape crazy chainsaw guys and giant babies. Seriously I can’t remember how we got so far in this game. It seems designed to destroy your soul.

6. TMNT IV: Turtles In Time, Konami. 1992.

Awww. Shell Shocked.

It wouldn’t be a list without the Turtles. Loved this game enough to buy it when it got remade for Xbox arcade. (Why haven’t you released the X-Men arcade game??)

5. Actraiser, Enix 1990.

God game, side scroller, full of win.

I can’t exactly explain why I played this game so much. I loved the city building and the sidescrolling aspects. I’m almost afraid to play it now because I don’t know if I would enjoy it as much. Best left to memory is suppose. I do know that the sequel sucked.

4. Super Mario World, Nintendo. 1990.

Platforming genius.

I think this may rank as one of my favorite games to play ever. Great controls, excellent powerups, and genius level design equals a great user experience. I get happy every time I play this.

3. Super Metroid, Nintendo. 1994.

What an awesome game.

Metroid is another great platformer but add in exploration elements and suit powerups and Rufus is happy. With multiple endings showing Samus in various states of undress…umm yeah…it also provided reason to go back and try to beat your last time through.

2. Super Mario Kart, Nintendo. 1992.

Spent entire weekends playing this.

We used to just do battles and unleash a bunch of green shells. Shell Hell is what we called it. I still love Mario Kart to this day.

1. Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Nintendo. 1991.

Wonder what his weak spot is?

A game that I will play over and over again for the rest of my life most likely. Brilliant in every way. If you haven’t played this just turn your computer off and go get it right now.

other than actraiser, which I never played so can’t judge, I totally agree with this list. let’s set up my SNES tonight!

  2. emilie says:

actually, cool spot is my actraiser. I heart that game for no good reason haha

  3. Scott says:

I was a genesis kid, but one game would have assumed would be on your list was Chrono Trigger. That, or Earthbound or Lunar or something.

  4. emilie says:

oh yeah, true scott! or secret of mana.

Good call on Zelda. It doesn’t get much better…!

…oh, man, now I want to play it. DAMMIT! Must look for my old SNES when I go home this weekend. I hope my parent’s having chucked it. That’s certainly wishful thinking, I’m sure. *sigh* They just doesn’t understand SNES nostalgia. ;-)

Em, if you set up your SNES, PLEASE invite me over for a play date. Please and thank you in advance. :-)

Scott, I too was a Genesis kid, and I too want Chrono Trigger on that list. You sir, have good taste. I do like this list though. The only game that pissed me off more than Zombies Ate My Neighbors was Deadly Towers for NES.
Also, Street Fighter II needs at least an honorable mention.

  7. John says:

Excellent call with A Link to the Past. I had to buy it again, when it was released for the Game Boy Advance. The addition of the Link sounds was a bit annoying, but it was a must have! None of the handheld, top-down Zelda’s have matched it…not yet.
